I think it is very interesting that we live in a generation that claims it has no fear. You have probably seen that hateful looking little boy on the window sticker of car in front of you, as he says “NO FEAR.” But you know, everybody has some fear, everyone that is except the disciples on the day of Pentecost in the upper room.
I have heard people over the years tell me they were afraid to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Others I could just see it plainly written on their faces. Yet in the upper room that day the disciples had no fear. You would think they would have. Their leader, their savior Jesus, was gone. It was well known and prophesied hundreds of years earlier that Jesus was the Prince of Peace. So how is it that they had peace and no fear on the day of Pentecost when He wasn’t there? They were experiencing the very Peace of God through the gift of the Holy Spirit. We could spend all day counting how many times in the Bible an angel or Jesus himself would appear to man and say, “Do not be afraid,” but not on the day of Pentecost.
When my son Jac was three years old and still going through potty training, he and I were in a clothing store desperately trying to find the restroom. As we hurriedly walked the aisles we passed by a man who worked there and was leaning against a display table. As we passed him, Jac looked up at him and said, “Do not be afraid God is with you” (1 Chronicles 28:20). He never missed a step and never paused to look back, he just kept going. Jac had recently learned that scripture verse in Sunday School. For that man, I think God used a three-year-old kid to speak peace to his heart. For you, that verse says that when God is involved there is no fear. Friend, don’t let fear hold you back. Don’t let it keep you from experiencing the fullness of the presence and peace of God. Let your guard down and trust God today.
