It was my day off so I was at home with my boys on a hot summer day. My middle son Ethan had just had his birthday and his grandpa had bought him a Superman outfit. Ethan loves dressing up as a superhero so the gift was very appropriate. As I stood in the kitchen making lunch for the boys that day, Ethan comes running in fully dressed as Superman and asks me a profound question. He said, “Dad, how come PaPa didn’t buy me the power too?” I just about fell in the floor, not because it was so funny (which it was), but because the realization hit me that there are so many people running around in Christian suits, dressing up like a Christian, but don’t have the power to go along with it.
Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” We receive the life of Christ at salvation. But I believe that we receive the fullness of that life through the power and work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that we would receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon us (Acts 1:8). Are you just running around in your Christian suit or have you received the power of the Holy Spirit to back it up?
